As well as being a leading voice on issues of mixed identity, Jassa is an elected member of Equity’s Council, the governing body of the trade union that represents actors, performers and creative practitioners. He is also a member of the Society of Authors and The Green Party. Jassa supports various campaigns for industrial, political and social change, as well as charitable causes.

Gorton & Denton by-election
Jassa knocked on doors with Hannah Spencer during her election campaign, which saw the Green Party win a historic victory.

High Court
In his role as a Councillor, Jassa authored a policy paper that paved the way for Equity’s challenge to casting directory Spotlight at the High Court. He is a named claimant on the case, which will now go to the Court of Appeal.

Self Tapes
Jassa had a direct hand in authoring Equity’s pioneering code of best practice for self tapes, an industry standard that is set to become a contractual agreement.

Jassa has been out campaigning with Zack Polanski ahead of the local elections in May 2026.

Maiti Nepal
In 2023, Jassa took part in a charity expedition to Annapurna Base Camp with One Family, in support of Maiti Nepal. He helped raise over £60,000 in the fight against human trafficking.

Anti-Racism
Jassa was first elected to Equity’s Race Equality Committee in 2019. He resigned in protest at the union’s failings on racism, before supporting Paul Fleming’s successful leadership bid.

Abolish the Monarchy
Jassa has spoken at various Republic events in support of their mission to abolish the British monarchy in favour of a democratic republic.

National Identity
In 2022, Jassa made a BBC documentary called Am I English? exploring mixed identity and advocating for a new approach to national belonging. The film won an Asian Media Award.
